Dance into the Weekend with Salsa at The Ward!

Over the last few weeks, I have enjoyed teaching outside of Guelph in Milton and Georgetown. I have met some amazing people who are very welcoming and supportive. One of the gentlemen in Georgetown asked me about our January schedule [I better get moving, chap-chap Nico, lol!]. A cool dude.

I enjoy the drive, and I keep to the country roads. The fall colors always bring out a smile in me. Fall is my favorite season of the year. The 1st time I fully immensed myself in the magic of the autumn season was as a university student at the University of Guelph, many many, many moons ago. Back then, Guelph was truly a country city, there were few activities for an African boy relatively new to Canada to do.

All the clubs in town played rock n roll, one club had country music. I like country music, but rock n roll was foreign to me. I was a so so student who ached to do something fun, and after 2 years of attending school with no social life, I was going nuts. It was around that time that I discovered the two activities that made me come to appreciate my new home, the ‘Outdoors Club' and the newly formed UOG Latin Club where I learned the word “Salsa Dance” for the 1st time.

Both activities got me to de-stress, make new friends, and boost my confidence — on and off the dance floor! I had to step out of my comfort zone in everything that I did during that period of my life.

Salsa is a perfect excuse to put down my textbooks and do something for yourself. With that in mind, I wanted to introduce a new monthly Latin Dance event for students and their friends to take a break, enjoy some beginner-friendly dance lessons with expert instructors, and have fun dancing in lively, welcoming atmosphere. Introducing the Student Latin Fridays, hosted monthly on the 1st Friday of every month.

Please note; The discounted student’s tickets are only available at the door with a valid student ID.

A Team Of International Dance Instructors

Wow, writing that makes it sound very cool. And it is!

As our chaotic dance season started, like it usually starts every year, I was busy making sure that the attendance sheets were in the correct order, then all of a sudden, my name was called. “Nico, why didn’t you tell me we had an instructor here from my neighbouring country?” That was Shannon, from New Zealand, one of our new instructor’s, and she had just met Rebecca, our Bachata instructor who joined us in 2023. Rebecca is from Australia.

That was soo cool, why didn’t I notice that? Oui. Well, this had to be addressed, hence our 14-hour dance Marathon, a Flying Dance OPEN HOUSE! 

If you have some time, and need to work up an appetite for a ‘guilt-free’ dinner on Sunday or Monday, join us for a day of dance and discovery. Come out with a friend and dance the day away with us.
