Our Growing Community

Welcome dance friends to our new dance year of dance with the Flying Dance Community. It’s hard to believe that we are already in September, and it’s chilly in the morning, winter is coming.

I hope you have all had an amazing summer, and hopefully, you found some time to relax a little bit. My family and I went camping a couple of times this summer. It was nice being in the outdoors, we enjoy that a lot as a family.

As we mark the third year since the Covid-bleep, I am thankful every day that we are still kicking around teaching dance. I am grateful for the growing ‘Talented’ dance team I have around me. I'm especially grateful for our ever-growing vibrant dance community that continues to blossom around us.

Dance, to me, is one of the most powerful tools for achieving balance in life. It offers an escape, a chance to step into a world where everyone is smiling and having a great time. I truly believe that creating more positive dance spaces would benefit communities everywhere.

It's important to take a moment to reflect on where we started to ensure we're still on the path we set for ourselves. Back in September 2022, our Group Classes Dance Team expanded from one to include three instructors: me, Nemanja Vukelic teaching Level 1 Salsa, and Mikaela Lewis leading West Coast Swing. In the following year, we welcomed Rebecca May, who brought her expertise in Bachata dancing.

Now, in September 2024, we have two new instructors: Agnieszka (Aga) Kowalczyk, who will be teaching Ballroom, and Shannon Wilson, who will offer Movement Motif classes, focusing on dance technique to elevate your skills.

An exciting update: Nemanja now teaches Levels 1 through 4 of Salsa, using FDComm's comprehensive Salsa Syllabus—a fantastic accomplishment!

Thanks to the support of our growing team, I’m able to expand our reach even further. This dance year, I’ll be teaching in two new cities—Milton and Georgetown—and I’m thrilled to meet new dancers, make new connections, and build more dance communities.

Group Lessons Structure

The Flying Dance Community offers Group Dance Lessons in multiple dance styles: Salsa, Bachata, West Coast Swing, Movement Motif, and the Ballroom style of Waltz, Rumba, Cha Cha

Our classes are hosted in multiple locations, Guelph, Milton, and Georgetown, with Guelph being the primary location

All group lessons are progressive. Each level runs about 2 months, with four levels in Salsa and Bachata dancing, completing our 8-month program from beginner to intermediate/advanced level dance classes.

Our Salsa and Bachata programs are part of a broader syllabus. Each level builds on the previous one, covering basics to intermediate techniques, with a focus on lead and follow dynamics. Advanced workshops are offered to further progress our student’s learning. This approach to our program allows for clear progression markers, making it easy for students to track their improvement and know when they are ready to advance.
